The Young Parents Programs are aimed at assisting young parents (parents who are under 25 years of age), their partners and their children through various projects, outreach and information and referral services. The programs also assist young people who are expecting a child and those whose children are in foster care. The Young Parents Programs currently incorporate the Munchkins Playgroup and the Young Parents Support Program.

Activities include:

• Weekly Playgroups and Parent Group activities include craft, skills based workshops, visits by staff from other organisations (eg Child Health nurses, occupational therapists, dieticians etc) and attending community events and venues. All activities are free and catering and transport are provided. These groups may also be used to facilitate supervised access visits for families whose children are in foster care, with program staff providing the supervision.

• Individual case management is provided to families needing additional support and may include home visits, information provision, advocacy and assisted referrals.

• Resource provision includes baby items such as prams and cots, household furniture and clothing (limited by availability of donated items). Food parcels donated to the program by St Paul's Lutheran Church are available to families experiencing hardship. Limited brokerage is also available in certain circumstances.

• Working collaboratively with other services and agencies, the program provides a coordinated response to family disadvantage through the creation of support networks, improved service coordination and the provision of collaborative case management with other services supporting the family. Staff are also happy to assist other organisations with information on improving their services provision and access for young parents and their families.
